Saying Goodbye is Hard

The guys at Detroit Energy came over and had to cut down my thinking tree this morning. I got to climb it one last time before they chopped it down. I am so sad. It was the best tree and I am going to miss hanging from it. The guys told me that they had to cut it down to keep us safe. I always felt safe in my tree. They said it could cause all the other trees to catch fire or someone to get electrocuted if they left it. The power lines were stuck in the branches. I miss my tree.

This is my last picture of my tree

This is me a few weeks ago when it was nice outside. This was the best tree ever.

The end

I'm sorry about your thinking tree. I would be sad, too. Sometimes it's hard when what is "good" for us isn't what we want. I would be even sadder if something happened to you because your tree was sick or dangerous. I'm glad your brother and sister were there for you when you were sad.
I hope that someday you will find another wonderful tree where you can do your thinking. Hang in there!

Thank you. I went out to look for a new tree today. It was a really nice day. I still have the apple trees to climb and they aren't even close to any power lines. I miss my tree. I sat on the stump today to think.

Aww that's sad about your tree

Maybe now you can start a new tree and see if you grow faster than it does!

I counted the rings in my tree and it was as old as my Dad. I do not think I could wait that long for another tree to grow. My Dad says he is too old to climb trees. I do not ever want to grow too old to climb trees.

Have you read the book called "The Giving Tree"? I think you might like it. You made me think of that book when you talked about sitting on the stump of your tree... and about your dad being too old to climb trees.

We checked out that book yesterday at the library. We also got the book called Where The Sidewalk Ends too. The same guy wrote them both. He has a poem about a sister for sale that I think is pretty funny. I really liked the tree book.

We had a tree in our backyard that we turned into a chair, maybe your stump could work as a chair too? That way you would have a good place to sit and think plus you can still climb in the apple tree!

I am keeping a piece to put up in Mr. Marino's Fort. I think I am going to make something out of it but I have not figured out what yet.

I'm sorry to hear about your tree, Ben. I used to climb this great tree in front of my great-grandparents' house in Texas. Climbing trees is fun.

Ben, I was very sad to hear about your tree. When I was little (like you) I had a tire swing on a branch in my yard. When I got older they had to cut down the branch. Even though I was "too old" to swing on my tire swing it made me sad. You know what cheered me up? One of the grown up men, like your dad, moved the swing for me (even though I was 16!) and even tried swinging on it just to be sure it was safe.

I hope you read more Shel Silverstein, he is my favorite.
